A true Leeds institution, the Royal Armouries is a great day out for all ages. With over five floors of stunning displays, you can explore arms and armour from across the world and through time. Thousands of pieces are on display, from medieval suits of armour to the heroic weapons of Lord of the Rings! Enjoy themed displays and galleries, see them in action in our tiltyard, or have a go yourself at the crossbow range.
National Science and Media Museum
If you have a budding scientist in your family, head to Bradford - from the Queens’ private entrance into Leeds Train Station, you’re only a 10-minute train ride away from the outstanding National Science and Media Museum. The museum explores image and sound technologies, with amazing interactive exhibits, 8 floors of free galleries and 3 cinemas - including the UK's first IMAX.
Ideal for little ones, not-so-little ones and grown ups too. Animal lovers should make a beeline for the fantastic Tropical World, located just outside Leeds city centre. This indoor wildlife park is perfect for a rainy day - see meerkats, bats, butterflies, monkeys, snakes and more. Under 5's go free.
Meanwood Valley Urban Farm
Perfect for big and little kids alike, this farm in the heart of the city is a great day out. Meanwood Valley Urban Farm houses everything from alpacas and donkeys to sheep, cows, and rabbits. There’s also a bike track, a bird spotting checklist and a wildflower meadow, perfect for insect-spotting.
The Go Ape adventure centre is in Temple Newsam, just outside Leeds city centre. Set in 1,500 acres of parkland, it's a family-friendly high-climbing treetop adventure course over a 90-minute experience, with everything from a Tarzan Swing to tree-to-tree zip wires and a 46-foot sheer drop called The Plummet.
