Widen your horizons with the best museums and galleries in Leeds

Looking for some cultural highlights? Leeds has got you covered, with tons of stunning museums and galleries within the city - or venture further afield and discover everything Yorkshire has to offer those in search of a little learning!

From historical halls to modern art

Leeds Art Gallery

Showcasing an array of paintings, sculptures and new media by renowned artists, Leeds Art Gallery is home to one of the best collections of 20th-century British art outside London. The lower galleries house a collection of Victorian art and sculptures of national importance from artists such as Damien Hirst and Barbara Hepworth. The upper galleries contain contemporary works as well as changing displays and exhibitions.

Kirkstall Abbey

An impressive Leeds landmark, Kirkstall Abbey is a weekend institution, and the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll through 24 hectares of grounds. When you're done having a wander, enjoy a picnic on the grass, or explore the hidden nooks and crannies of the Abbey ruins - all for free! The grounds also host regular farmers' markets, open cinema events, and Christmas fairs.

Thackray Medical Museum

Currently undergoing a £4m refurbishment and reopening in summer 2020, Thackray Medical Museum is truly unique! Exploring the (often gruesome) history of medicine, from a recreation of a Victorian slum to interactive games, it's a great day out if you have children, but still informative and interesting for medically-minded adults!
